196 - Rage & Rapture

A plot?! Bah, you don't need such nonsense!

There is someting that looks like a plot in this music eerie, creepy little music video: an undead shadowpriestess blows up foul alliance and other fiendish things with an instacast shadownova.

Keep your eyes wide shut and you might see some companion cubes too!

Last but not least - this video is made to /salute the champion of shadowpriests, Beckon. He was/is one of the few PvP dudes whose videos (the PvPriest series) I liked to watch.

Beckon is also the reason why I rolled a shadowpriest.

195 - Kake Buk Island: Screenshots

Slowly but surely getting there. I really underestimated that how fast (slow) the making of KBI would be. It is taking a lot longer than I expected, to speed it up I'd need to turn off my perfectionist setting.

Two new screenshots, the third is already seen in motion in the teaser.

194 - Rage & Rapture: Screenshots

Indeed.. this turned out to be something bigger than just an oneday project. A lot more challenging to make than I expected - but a rewarding project anyways.

I'll be rendering it during the weekend, depending on Kake Buk's progress too.

A few little things about Rage & Rapture:

1. There's a guest artist featured on the video. I got a really really really nice looking picture shown to the end credits. It's an amazing piece of work, I insta wallpapered it and I wanna get it to my wall.
2. This is also the first movie where I use Unreal Tournament 3 backgrounds.
3. I fucking hate murlocs.
4. There's something weird in the picture with the Spirit Resser.

192 - Graphics macros for WoW!

This isn't anything new anymore. There's a couple of macros circling around the net which improve the graphical thingies of WoW.

I got mine from WorldofRaids.

So what do they actually do? Quoting World of Raids:

• The vegetation can be seen from miles away (grass flowers etc) plus there seems to be FAR more of it.
• The "bloom" effect seems to be more vivid.
• The view distance is greatly increased.
• Everything seems to be more sharp and crisp.
• The weather effects appear to be more intense.

191 - A new video on the works. Again.

So I thought I'd release something small and quick before Kake Buk episode 1. An one-day weekend project again. But.. things aren't so simple.

The idea of the video is this: an undead female (shadowpriest of course!) goes from place to place blowing up alliance or other foul fiends with an imba shadownova spell, sometimes smashing dwarf skulls with a two-handed mace.

All this happens to a Drum'n'Bass song, "Rage & Rapture" by Quadrant & Cease.

I thought this would be very easy and fast to do, but the perfectionist inside me has an alternative opinion. Especially the "I WANT EVERYTHING TO SYNC TO THE MUSIX FFS!" perfectionist part.

This song, like many other DnB songs has a little section of beats - which is about roughly 15-17 frames long, going throughout the song. After this small amount of time, the scene changes.. and there will be lots of these cuts (no emo kids, not that kind of cuts). More tweaking, more time - a lot of phun!
As you can see from the screenshots, I am going for a really bleak, gloomy and creepy look for the video.

There's also a little texture change on the video, I changed the red skeletal mount to the White Deathknight Charger. That is one bad ass mount, hope Blizz someday adds it officially in-game.

Background story

Before watching or reading forward: if you have not played the Portal game (I haven't either, yet) - read this. It contains a lot of spoilers - this was a warning.

Short version:
What happens when you install GLaDOS on a mechanostrider? Watch this video and find out.

Long version:

Once upon a time, there was the gnome kingdom of Gnomeregan. Lots of gnomes lived there, some of them vibrated. One day in the year 1985, the gnome kingdom did a company merger with Aperture Science.

In the same time, an instacast shadow nova spell was added to the warlock class.

In 1986, the development starts on GLaDOS (Generic Lifeform and Disk Operating System). The Aperture Science Pirate Hats (tm) are sold out almost immediately in every store.


In 1987, the most stupid fucking idea in the history of stupid fucking ideas takes place. GLaDOS is installed into a mechanostrider.

But.. some idiot had copied the entire discographies of Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Bullet For My Valentine on that 5.25" floppy disc.

As these bands and their music causes vomiting, diarrhea and irresistable desire to cut oneself with dull plastic knives on a human being.. well, you can guess what it does for a machine.

Rick Astley releases "Never Gonna Give You Up". The song becomes an instant success.

In 1989, the mechanostrider goes crazy and kills 99.98% of the gnomeregan population. With laserbeams and radiation.

Swish, swoooshh - oh my!

How To Paladin IX wins 12 Oscars. They include the best movie, the best direction, the best male actor (Shepiwot), the best music and the best spinning scene.

In 2029, the remaining survivors of Gnomeregan are turned into mindless cyborg slaves. Some are forcefully mutated into MechaMurlocs.

But, one gnome managed to survive. She just slept through the entire incident.

The Weighted Companion Cube is not in this movie - it demanded a too big salary.

Making of + SCANDAL
It took exactly one day, Saturday to make this machinima. Oh come on.. there is no better way to spend a saturday than to sit in front of your computer making machinima!

This whole thing got started when Vesta pasted a YouTube link to the song by Victims of Science.

I downloaded the song.

I listened it on repeat during a Karazhan raid.

I had to machinimate it.

Let's jump to the scandal part: the Portal Gun you see originated from MMOwned. Yes, MMOwned.

I barely can look myself in the mirror now.. feel so dirty! (To my defence, the original .mpq from that site did not work so I repacked it and saved the day).


BONUS VIDEO! I made this short clip very quickly. It just shows how to install GLaDOS into a mechanostrider :)

183 - Weekend Side Project

Allrighty then, a little preview pic of a side project I'm currently working on. This machinima is relatively fast to make compared to the others in progress, so I thought why not.

And why yes, here we go! I blame Vesta for putting that song playing in my head.

I played it on repeat during a Karazhan raid and the little voices in my head told me that you must machinimate this!


The plan is to complete the whole thing during this weekend.

Update 5: Done now, starting the render in a few minutes. I'm not yet sure when I'll release it to the big public, prolly after ..an other movie by a certain french gnome :P Most likely I can't resist myself.. the fine people at #machinima will get to see it definitely :)

Last but not least, this was a damn fun machinima to make. It actually took more effort than I expected, I hope you all like it :)


Update 6:

I did render the vid over night, everything went well except it didn't. The current version has one epic fail typo and the artist's name is totally wrong (this was not my fault, it was wrong in the id3 tag of the MP3 file I originally got).

However, I uploaded the video to GameTube before realizing the error. I won't post the link here now because I really don't want a version full of faill to be spread round the net. If you want to see the current version, come to #machinima @ Quakenet IRC and I'll give you the link.

The corrected version will be rendered today.

Update 7: Added a new intro to the movie which explains more about the backgrounds. Also some little tweaks here and there had to be made.

182 - Gnomish Eyebeams of Doom

As the gnomes are preparing to destroy the alliance from the inside, they should be able to shoot beams from their engineering goggles. If not to enslave alliance, then to destroy the evil space onion overlords from space.

Pinkhair's gnome is giving a presentation to you what it all will be about when the other alliance races must bow before their new, vibrating masters:

I have decided to stop making machinima.

The reasons for this are many: PvP movies get better average scores even though they take zero effor to make. Also this whole machinima thing is pretty stupid. No one really wants to watch music videos made with a computer game, let alone some weird drama or comedy.

Thanks everyone, it was a fun ride.

I will not finish any of my current projects, I have deleted all my project files and cancelled my WoW subscription. Tomorrow, I will have all of my movies removed from all of the machinima sites they are featured in.

I am going to get a life. So, I'll say goodbye to you all with one of the best songs ever made:
